I wouldn't say I'm totally stumped, but I don't know if I can find a definitive answer on that one. Searching old Nishiki catalogs, the Ultimate is hard one to find -- though I did find several references saying that it was essentially the same as a model called the Professional -- and perhaps the model name was changed at some point.

In any case, again looking through old catalogs, most references to tubing that I can find that actually specify a brand list Tange. So that would be my best guess. Yes, your guess is as good as mine. I have another Nishiki with a similar tubing logo, only gold, so I think it was just their way of indicating double butted chrome moly tubing without specifying the brand.

I don't know what tubing that is, but I will add a data point: That's the same sticker as on my Nishiki Comp II which used Tange double butted tubes per their catalog. From the age, that means mine is either Champion 1 or 2. My seatpost diameter is However, I don't know if that's the same sticker they put on all their double butted frames or specific to Tange 2 frames.

Hi, I recently discovered your blog and have enjoyed reading many of the posts. The sticker on the tubing said Tange I knew I had recently read an article about the different types of tubing and then I remembered that I read it here. So I reread this post and surfed around to find out more.

Did you misquote or is this in conflict with a different source? Thanks for all the interesting posts. Hi -- thanks for writing. I did see that Tange catalog you refer to, as well as others. If I recall correctly from old magazine articles in the 80s, Tange felt that their process of working Infinity made it virtually the same as seamless -- hence the name "infinity" -- no beginning, no end.

Nevertheless, I've seen posts on forums where people say they could still see the seam when looking down the inside of the seat-tube, for example. There could have been a slight difference in the specific formulation of the chrome-moly steel, or the process of working the Infinity could have been a little more expensive more likely. Lastly -- does any of it make a big difference when the tubes are brazed together into a frame?

Probably not. And apart from a few grams difference in weight which are very hard to notice when actually ridingthey all can deliver a a nice ride. If you find a nice bike, that's built well, fits properly, etc. Thanks for the info, you are a fountain of knowledge. I don't need another bike at this time, it just peeked my curiosity and I'm always looking for decent vintage bikes.

At just g in size medium, the Ultimate SL is the lightest frame the brand has designed to date. The new frameset means builds weighing well under the 6. And, as you might expect of such a svelte chassis, Ribble say "the Ultimate SL excels in racing and epic challenge rides in the hills and big mountains. Aside from the impressively low weight, the frame features new carbon tube profiles that are aerodynamically designed to cut through the air.

And, with its racing geometry and a short wheelbase, the Ultimate SL encourages riders to take a low, efficient and aggressive racing position. An oversized bottom bracket shell and tapered head tube ensure your watts are transmitted efficiently, with Ribble saying the Ultimate is "stiff enough to sprint for victory as well as light enough to climb into the clouds.

While performance seems top of the list, comfort hasn't been overlooked either; the Ultimate SL's thin seat stays help build compliance into the rear triangle, while a The model pictured is Ribble's recommended build, featuring Shimano's Ultegra Di2 electric groupset and Mavic Ksyrium wheelset.

This bike was built around a frame which one of the finest you could get in Here is a beautiful side lever PCP airgun that uses shot clips and delivers outstanding performance. The S is an air rifle that will become a family heirloom. But if value for money is seen as being the price paid for a thing of beauty and perfection that will give the owner joy in use and pride of ownership for ever, the Air Arms S Extra FAC Superlight Combo is clearly outstanding value for money.

The others in the HAM test team agree: we think you will, too. The Air Arms S is not designed to give super-high muzzle velocities. It delivers solid, practical muzzle velocities in the — FPS range in. With pellets above This is good for hunting pests and small game, which is an ideal use for the S in. HAM tester Doug Rogers noted that if the pellets dropped easily into the magazine when loading, they shot well.

And, as the test target for the Gamo Platinum PBA pellets shows, if lighter pellets drop easily into the magazine, the S will shoot them well, too, if required. This is a very useful feature that enables the shooter to be sure of the accuracy before pulling the trigger. The manual safety is located in the trigger itself. It has a push across action that solidly blocks trigger travel.

Cocking is butter-smooth and satisfying, courtesy of the sidelever action. Cocking effort on the S tested by HAM was just 7 lb 11 oz. This action is just a pleasure to use! The primary ones are that it will give a muzzle velocity of FPS in. It also exceeded the muzzle energy claim with those same Baracudas. If used with the appropriate pellets — see the Speed and Accuracy section above — the gave very consistent accuracy, as is shown by the test targets.

HAM has tested airguns with better Standard Deviations, but the variability here was not great and clearly had no impact on the outstanding accuracy. Consistency of trigger pull was consistent as well as light, with a minimum pull of 1 lb 9 oz and a maximum of 1 lb 11 oz in HAM testing.

HAM testers agreed that the Aeon scope gave a beautiful image. Eye relief was good and the image bright. Sharp and clear, it was easy to focus and good for rangefinding — an essential for hunting and Field Target use.

The side wheel was smooth and precise in action — it would undoubtedly be even better fitted with the optional accessory Aeon Side Focus Wheel. As regular readers will know, HAM testers all agree that an air rifle scope must have AO Adjustable Objective combined with a very fine mil dot reticle.

The etched glass reticle found on this scope is superior to the wire reticle found on many scopes and enables a very fine reticle pattern. This complex reticle is specifically designed for easy and accurate holdover when shooting in Field Target competition. This reticle is perfect for en experienced and knowledgeable air rifle shooter who is prepared to put in the necessary time and effort to learn how to use it to best effect.

Although scope rings are often taken pretty much for granted, it was clear to the HAM team that the BKLMB rings supplied in this bundle are a clear cut above most scope rings. HAM tester Doug Rogers found them easy and precise to fit, with a definite feel of quality.

The auto-centering clamp legs help here as they move equally as the clamping screw is tightened. Most other scope rings clamp tight with movement on one side only, with a tendency to warping as the clamping screws are tightened.

HAM testers found that the S was very comfortable to shoot, it was easy to bring up to aim and the ambidextrous stock design gave excellent cheek weld and hold for both left- and right-handed testers. The design of this air rifle makes it easy to hold consistently — a big part of repeatable accuracy in the field — and this was combined with the excellent balance of the scope and rings supplied in the tested bundle. The stock design is largely responsible for this consistent hold, with its thin wrist, comfortable comb and carefully-curved forend.

It just makes it so easy for the shooter to adopt a consistent, comfortable hold! There were no jams or misfeeds during the HAM testing. The side wheel AO focusing and mil-dot reticle of the Aeon 8 — 32 x 50 scope made it easy to adjust for accurate shooting on targets at different distances. Overall, this is a very easy air rifle to shoot well, as is confirmed by its outstanding RateAGun score of just 3.View Gallery.

Today RockShox unveiled the latest versions of its lightest suspension products. After banging it around on the trails of southwestern Colorado, my impressions are positive. Despite the 35mm platform, this fork is more SID than Pike.

But it is sensitive. You can see it oscillating as it picks up small bumps, and it offers reliable grip on the dreaded kitty litter over hardpack. In one case I slapped down to flat after overjumping a transition, and the new SID took up the hit without harshness and, though I used full travel, I didn't feel a hard bottom-out.

The 35mm platform pays huge dividends in stiffness and accuracy: This fork steers sharply, holds its line, and has good braking stiffness. Oh, and I did try the lockout. The lever is easy to find and has a high-quality feel and robust detents.

As promised, the lockout is fiiirrrm—there was no noticeable movement, even when I was powering up steep climbs out of the saddle. So how does it compare to the Fox Step Cast 34?

Colnago Master Olympic Decor (1994) – SOLD

They both perform very well, so this is more of a personal preference. Forthe SID gets a ground up redesign: the lowers, uppers, crown, steerer, spring and damper are all new. The forks are 29 only: you'll need to look elsewhere if you roll This damper uses a flexible rubber bladder like the Charger damper found in RockShox's bigger forks, but the Charger Race Day is lighter owing to its smaller size and reduced oil volume.

The SID line gets a revised air spring optimized for running at 15 to 25 percent sag the longer-travel Pike and Lyrik are optimized for 25 to 35 percent sag. Even though the fork uses an aluminum crown and steerer, it is g lighter than the SID Ultimate Carbon, according to RockShox.

The fork is lighter because of the Charger Race Day damper, and the chassis is narrower than the version as well.
