One of these pages is printed for every bred sow and placed on a clipboard which hangs on the back of her crate. It was designed to solve several of our most common problems and serves as a tool when it comes to culling sows. Back in the day before smart phones when we first started raising showpigs we would find ourselves scribbling down important information such as the sows ear notch, farrowing date and number of pigs born on anything piece of paper or feed sack within reach.

Then you can only imagine the problems of keeping up with all of those pieces of paper. The answer for us was the development of these forms. This one piece of paper contains all of the information that we need for our operation.

Feel free to download the forms and use them in your own operation. Here are the highlights on how we use the form. Download Forms Here. Page 1 — Farrowing Records. Page 2 — Litter Records. Page 1: Farrowing Record. If it is a purebred litter we use this information to register the litter. Everything needed to record the litter is listed on the sheet. As you might expect it makes it hard to determine what time to expect their arrival. This little bit of data prevents major mistakes.

Is there are problem? We also like to farrow multiple sows at a time and by circling the sex of the pig when it is born and jotting down the time you always know how many she has and can easily make a quick count if needed to determine if something has changed since we last observed her. In the columns to the right we can easily place a check mark indicating if the pig was born Naturally, Helped or Pulled. We use the comments section to make more notes.

This data can help us the next year when we farrow that sow again and make culling decisions. There is lots of blank space on the form to write and additional notes such as medications that the sow or litter might receive. Page 2: Litter Record.

However, if pork producers want to increase profit, then complete, detailed records are essential. At least two figures must be determined each year: total production costs and income.

While other records are required to effectively monitor production, these production records cover most profit opportunities for existing swine units. Feed Records There are two forms for monitoring feed. The Feed Formula Record provides a record of the ingredient composition of each diet you mix. This form is especially important if more than one person mixes feed. The Batch Record helps determine the amount of each diet used. Every time you mix a batch of feed, record the diet, date, amount of feed per batch, and the number of batches mixed.

Have the form initialed by the person mixing each batch. This form is useful for inventory control and for troubleshooting feed related problems. Sow Records The four sow record forms concentrate on breeding and lactation. Use the Breeding Record form to record hand-matings. Record the date, time of day, and boar for first, second, and third services. You can also record the results of day heat checks and pregnancy checks at 35 to 42 days after breeding.

Days From Weaning To Breeding is a critical record to keep during breeding. Use this form to record sow numbers in the appropriate column. For example, if a sow is weaned on Thursday and is bred the following Tuesday, write her number in the 4 to 7 days column.

When breeding is completed for a group of sows, most sows should be in the first column. Some may fall in the second column. If sows require 10 or more days to cycle after weaning, then a problem may exist. When a sow is bred, she should conceive and farrow days later. We had numerous calls and requests again this year for this information so we decided to post this blog again.

We often make culling and breeding decisions based upon this data. Forms are compiled along with Pedigree information into a three ring binder by sow.

Our arrangements all went flawlessly. We communicated with Larus several times prior to our arrival and his timely responses were much appreciated.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and found it very rewarding.

My husband and I had a very pleasant experience with Nordic Visitor, our enquiries were responded in a prompt manner, we were able to tailor make our own itinerary according to our need, hotels were great quality and in great locations as well. We would also like to express our gratitude to Bjarni and Helena for their assistance while we had some little issues in Norway. Bjarni was not our travel consultant but he was extremely helpful while Helena was away and managed to organise our lugguage transfer in just a few hours time while we had no idea what we could do in Oslo.

Our Norway in a Nutshell trip was cancelled due to a freight train being stuck on the track and we were able to get our refund in a very timely manner. We think the service we received from the beginning to the end of our trip was excellent, Nordic Visitor and their consultants make sure their customers get the best out of it and are being well looked after during their trip.

I booked everything through Gudrun at Nordic Visitor for Iceland and it was super easy, they were really flexible with me and even when the weather and my schedule changed, it was never an issue. Always prompt, always polite and always a good price. All the tours that were booked for us were exceptional.

All the pick ups were on time and all the guides were very knowledgable. If I ever go back to Iceland, or any other Nordic country, I will certainly be using Nordic Visitor again. It was an amazing experience and I enjoyed it all.

The time went too fast. Have to come back to see it all in a different season. It was great to have the support of the amazing people of Nordic Visitor in the background especially as I was on my own. Great service, great value. Sigfus was really helpful. I would definitely recommend Nordic Visitor to friends.

Thanks so much for a wonderful trip. Excellent all the way around. Kolbrun gave me great information to prepare for my first arctic trip and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I will definitely use Nordic Visitor again for my travels.

I cannot say enough great things about Nordic Visitor. My wife and I have just returned from our honeymoon in Lapland and I have to say, Irja (from www. But, from paying attention to each and every detail of two extremely finicky customers, to going through innumerable changes in the itinerary, Irja was instrumental in ensuring that we were traveling in comfort and style.

Even though our flight details changed at the very last minute, Irja and Cecilia ensured that all accommodations and transfers were taken care of. The hotel and tour operators provided to us were absolute gems and the itinerary allowed for us to enjoy everything in Lapland with enough time to spare for ourselves too - which is my idea of a perfect holiday.

Whenever I plan my next scandinavian holiday, I will definitely be using www. I visited Iceland for the first time with two friends just prior to Xmas, 2014, for eight days. After spending hours on my computer looking at hotels and guest houses, and wondering how we would know which tours to book once there, I came across Nordic Visitor and contacted them. From the first contact, I found them helpful and knowledgeable, polite, and willing to work with me to make our time in Iceland pleasurable and a unique experience.

They worked with our chosen hotel to get the room I wanted which I had read on trip advisor had a nice view, to get breakfast included in our rate, and to give us information about the various tours and set them up according to our chosen dates.

Everything worked incredibly smoothly and we had an absolutely wonderful time, from being met at the airport to our welcome package, enjoying our hotel and staff and lovely room with views, our delicious breakfast, pick up at our hotel for our chosen tours, and our eventual and rather reluctant return to the airport.

My friends and I fell in love with Iceland and its friendly people, it's gorgeous natural scenery and delicious food. I found it so much easier to have our trip all prebooked and not to have to worry about a thing once in Reykavik, other than enjoying it all and being so appreciative to Nordic Visitor for all the work they had put in to make our trip a memorable visit to a very special place. All highly satisfactory and would not hesitate to recommend Iceland and Nordic Visitor to others.Food was delicious and all accommodations were so comfortable and luxurious.

All the materials you provided were amazing. The road atlas was a tremendous help and an appreciated gift as well. We hope someday to visit other nordic countries - Denmark and Norway especially. We will certainly go to Nordic Visitor when we do. Thank you again for all the thoughtful planning that made this trip truly memorable. Everything was extremely well done, I though. Sigfus was very accomodating when it came to answering every question--he even answered my question when he was out of the office sick.

The entire self-drive course along the Ring Road was easy to follow. I mostly used the GPS, but the maps and atlas came in handy when trying to find locations the GPS did not recognize as well as letting me find other desinations of personal interest (like the gliderport just outside of Reykjavik).

Nordic Visitor impressed us from the start with instant replies to Emails and the ability to call Nordic Visitor using a 1800 number from Australia, as I did once, was great. I have to thank Helena for everything she did for us, including sorting the slight hiccup that occurred in our pickup from Oslo airport. The documentation presented to us was 1st class, maps, travel information, and we much appreciated the DVDs from Hurtigruten. We loved everywhere we travelled, Trondheim, cruising the Fjords, Bergin, perhaps Flam was a highlight, getting there, the accommodation, the included meal, the train ride.

    4-H Records and Project Forms

As it turned out we did the train from Flam to Myrdal twice as the train to Oslo could not operate due to snow, so they sent us back to Flam and then a bus to Oslo. Many thanks to Nordic Visitor and Helena, maybe Iceland is next. Your staff was very helpful setting up the trip with our special requests and making sure things were right while we were on the trip. Our primary purpose for the trip was to see and photograph the Northern Lights, which we were able to do 2 lovely nights in a row.

But the entire trip was great -- Iceland and its people are wonderful and we definitely want to return. We have traveled independently many times but with a short stay of one week decided that going through a travel company would help us make best use of our time- and the ability to do a 'facilitated' self guided tour was perfect for us. We all agreed it was the best short break holiday we have ever had THANK YOU!.

The information package was so good that a meeting with my travel agent was not required. The map was so detailed we rarely needed anything else. All sites were thoughtfully laid out and were excellent.
